How do I make My.GVTC.com my home page?
There are two ways to make My.GVTC.com your home page:
In Internet Explorer:

  1. The first is on the home page itself. Go to http://My.GVTC.com and click on "Make this my home page" in the welcome bar area. You will be prompted to accept the URL as your home page.
  2. In the Internet toolbar, click on "Tools." Click on "Internet options." On the "General" tab, type in http://My.GVTC.com in the home page space, click on "use current," and then click on "Apply."
In Firefox:
  1. Click and drag the link that says: "To make this your home page, drag this link onto your Home Button."

My.GVTC.com has a home page, plus many other pages that you typically access by clicking on components or channels. When you go to another page, simply click on your browser's "back" button or choose "Directory" and then "Home" at the left side of the page. If you have not set My.GVTC.com as your home page, and you navigate to other URL addresses on the web (which will sometimes open a separate browser window), when you want to get back to My.GVTC.com, you have 3 options:

  1. Enter http://My.GVTC.com in the browser address bar to return to the home page.
  2. Close any separate browser windows to return to the home page.

How do I download Downloads and Plug-ins (i.e., plug-ins, flash, etc)?
To download programs necessary to support premium content, such as flash or plug-ins, go to "Downloads" at the top of the homepage. In "Downloads," select the program you are interested in downloading by clicking on the name. You will be taken to another page that will give you directions for downloading.

What is a component?
A component is a section of the portal that is complete within itself offering dynamic and specific information. It can be moved or removed within the space of the portal when you are logged in. For instance: "3 Day Forecast" is the Weather component on the page.

How do I add/remove components?
To add content, you must first log in to the portal. Once logged in, click on the "Add Content" button in the welcome bar. From here, you may select any component you'd like to add through the categories provided.

To remove, simply click on the 'X' in the top right corner of each desired component.

How do I move components?
When logged in, hover your mouse over a movable component. A two-way arrow will appear. When you see that arrow, you may click and drag the component up or down within the column.

How do I customize the TV Listings component on My.GVTC.com?
Several things can be customized within the TV Listings component. Click on "Settings" in the upper right hand corner of the component. You can adjust the following:

Click "Submit" after making your changes. This will return you to the My.GVTC.com home page, where you can see your changes.

Using "Advanced Search" from the TV Listings component, you may search for shows by name, date, channel or category. You can sort them by date or title. And you can select how you would like your results displayed.

  1. While you are at the home page and logged in: Add your own favorite web sites by clicking on "Configure." Type in the name and URL of a website you'd like to link to, and click "Add." The name space is limited to 14 characters. Continue this process as many times as you like. When finished, click "Finished."
  2. You can also choose from a list of popular websites: Click on "Configure," then click on "Configure" next to the website you want on the list. You may be prompted to enter a User ID and Password which will allow you to skip this sign in process from the Quicklinks component when you want to access it from the My.GVTC.com home page.

How do I customize the Local channel?
The "Local Channel" can be found in the directory on the left side of the home page. It is named "Local" and once the zip code has been set it will have the name of the city as "In...". The Local Channel can be customized whether you are logged in or not—by clicking on the local channel and then entering your desired ZIP code and clicking "Go". If there is a local component on the My.GVTC.com home page, the content there will also change to reflect the ZIP code input on the Local channel.

How do I update the Weather component?
Within the Weather component, there is a box where you can enter any ZIP code. Simply enter a ZIP code to see the weather conditions in the place you are interested in. Entering a ZIP code will change the location in the component; to change it back enter the original ZIP code. You can also change whether the display is reported in Fahrenheit or Celsius by choosing the corresponding icon in the top right of the component.

How do I access e-mail?
E-mail can be accessed in the upper right corner of My.GVTC.com. Simply click on the e-mail link and enter your e-mail User ID and Password and click Log In to get in to your mailbox.

Commenting on a Story

Who can comment on stories?
All registered portal users are allowed to post comments. You can also sign in using your Facebook, Twitter, Disqus ID, Yahoo or OpenID to comment.

I can't connect using Facebook Connect, what should I do?
If you have trouble logging in with Facebook, visit Facebook.com and login there, then visit the portal and click the Facebook Connect button. You should then login seamlessly.

How are comments monitored?
Comments are monitored by GVTC via an assigned moderator. The moderator(s) have the ability to immediately edit/delete comments that violate our comment policy and restore comments that have been wrongly flagged. The moderator can also monitor for spam as well as block users.

What is GVTC's comment policy?
GVTC encourages you to add comment to our discussions. You may not post any unlawful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic or other material that would violate the law. Please note that GVTC makes reasonable efforts to review all comments prior to posting and GVTC may edit comments for clarity or to keep out questionable or off-topic material. All comments should be relevant to the post and remain respectful of other authors and commenters. By submitting your comment, you hereby give GVTC the right, but not the obligation, to post, air, edit, exhibit, telecast, cablecast, webcast, re-use, publish, reproduce, use, license, print, distribute or otherwise use your comment(s) and accompanying personal identifying information via all forms of media now known or hereafter devised, worldwide, in perpetuity.

If I see an inappropriate comment what should I do?
Click on "Flag." Users that repeatedly leave inappropriate or off-topic comments will have their account suspended.

Why has my account been suspended from commenting on stories?
We suspend accounts that repeatedly violate our comment policy or terms of use http://disqus.com/privacy-policy/. Also note that if you attempt to impersonate another user by using a derivative of their name or avatar, your account will be immediately suspended.

Can I edit a comment that I have posted?
Yes, you can edit a comment after it has been posted. Click on EDIT button in the lower right hand corner of your comment box*.*

Can I post URLs as comments?
Yes, you can post URLs as comments and users will see a hyperlink when they roll their mouse over the URL.
