Yoenis Cespedes injury update: Mets outfielder (hip) placed on DLSporting News — firstname.lastname@example.org (Kirstie Chiappelli)
Yoenis Cespedes will need to take some time off to heal.
The Mets on Wednesday announced they have placed the star outfielder on the 10-day disabled list with a right hip flexor strain.
The move, retroactive to May 14, corresponded with the team's recalling of infielder Phillip Evans from Triple-A Las Vegas for reinforcement.
Cespedes initially suffered the injury May 6 against the Rockes. Despite being bothered by the strain, he has appeared in five games since then.
Cespedes, 32, is batting .255 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs through 37 games played this season.
He will be eligible to return for the start of New York's series in Milwaukee on May 24.
