Doris Day Said No to a Trio of Things

Newser — Newser Editors

If you want to pay tribute to Doris Day, you won't be able to head to a cemetery. Best you can do is go to a corner of the internet.

A statement posted to the Doris Day Animal Foundation's website states that Day made clear she wanted "no funeral or memorial service and no grave marker." Manager Bob Bashara tells People he's not exactly sure why, but that she was "shy" and tried to skirt the subject of her arrangements.

"She didn’t like death, and she couldn’t be with her animals if they had to be put down," he says. "She had difficulty accepting death." In honor of her "passionate work on behalf of dogs, cats, horses, sea lions, raptors and other animals" needing care, those fans and friends who want to remember her are asked to visit

(In 2017, Day's birth certificate brought a surprise.)
