Trump to Move 'Very Quickly' on Another Security Clearance

Newser — Luke Roney

Justice Department official Bruce Ohr—who President Trump says aided his political enemies during the campaign—may be the next person to have his security clearance revoked. "I think that Bruce Ohr is a disgrace, with his wife, Nellie," Trump told reporters Friday, saying that he plans to yank Ohr's security clearance "very quickly," the New York Times reports.

Ohr knows the co-founder of Fusion GPS—the firm hired by the Clinton campaign to do opposition research on Trump, according to CBS. And, per an analysis at the Washington Post, he also knows former British spy Christopher Steele, who compiled the infamous dossier alleging ties between Trump and Russia.

Ohr's wife worked for Fusion GPS.

Until late last year, Ohr was associate deputy attorney general, according to the Post, until the Justice Department found out that he had been in contact with Steele.

His current role is unclear; however, he is not working on the Russia investigation, says Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Critics have said Trump is using security clearances as a political tool.

On Wednesday, the White House announced that Trump had stripped former CIA Director (and vocal Trump critic) John Brennan of his security clearance. And several more officials are under review for similar action, as detailed at Business Insider.

(Former intelligence officials released a letter saying Trump is attempting to "stifle free speech.")
