‘Counterpart’ Cancelled at Starz After Two Seasons

Variety — Cynthia Littleton

Starz has pulled the plug on the J.K. Simmons spy drama “Counterpart” after two seasons.

The series hailed from MRC and Anonymous Content. The final episode is set to air on Sunday.

Showrunner and creator Justin Marks disclosed the cancellation Monday morning via Twitter. Marks suggested that MRC would shop the series to other outlets.

Counterpart” was a critical darling but failed to generate much pop culture buzz amid a sea of drama series options. Simmons played a bureaucrat at a United Nations-affiliated agency who stumbles the secret to crossing over into a parallel dimension where he finds his counterpart.

Nazanin Boniadi, James Cromwell, Betty Gabriel, Harry Lloyd, Olivia Williams and Eme Ikwuakor also starred.
